EXPLORE THE ERC BY SEASON
Row With Us Year-Round
At the Edmonton Rowing Club, every season brings new challenges, adventures, and ways to stay connected—on and off the water. Whether you’re gliding down the North Saskatchewan River in summer, maintaining strength and endurance in winter with land training, or training for regattas in spring and fall, there’s always something to keep you engaged and moving forward.

Discover the Joy of Summer Rowing
Kick off your adventure on Dock Day and experience Edmonton’s stunning North Saskatchewan River Valley from the water. Glide through the city’s ‘Ribbon of Green,’ watching snow geese pause mid-migration and beavers making a splash. There’s nothing like the serenity of rowing on glass-like water under the summer sun.

Join the Team—Your Way
Whether you’re new to rowing, training to compete, or just here for the fun, there’s a place for you at ERC. Learn to row and become part of an incredible community, or challenge yourself in summer regattas across Western Canada. Prefer a relaxed pace? Our Sport (Rec) program offers fitness, camaraderie, and the occasional friendly race in Saturday time trials.

More Than Just Rowing
On-the-water activities are just the beginning of a fun-filled day in the ERC community. The long, hot summer days and evenings in Edmonton allow for a mosaic of adventure for members of the Edmonton Rowing Club. After their morning row, members reassemble on land, grabbing coffee and breakfast at the Zoo’s café. Evenings are great for aprés rowing activities like unwinding at Rebel of El Corazon for wine and cheese.

Making the Most of the Changing Seasons
The days may get shorter, but the rowing continues into mid-October. Lush greenery along the river gives way to the spectacular colours of autumn. The entire club makes the most out of the rowing season before the ice and snow take over.

Finish Strong, Go the Distance
As August winds down, the sprint season isn’t over just yet! Racing crews can still compete in Rowing Canada-sanctioned events like Dino Sprints in Calgary. But as summer fades, short-course races give way to thrilling endurance challenges. ERC crews take on iconic long-distance races, including the Race Around the Rock in Salt Spring Island, Head of the Gorge in Victoria, and Head of the South Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. Ready to push your limits? Join us on the journey!

Switching Gears in Preparation
As the days become shorter and cooler, ERC members, coaches, and staff rally together and encourage bonding over the preparations to transition the club to winter training. The river’s mystique keeps drawing us in and everyone is satisfied and ready for land training when the dock is pulled in for the winter in mid-October.

Celebrate the Season & Kick Off Winter Training
Winter training begins with our Annual General Meeting and Gala in November—a night to recognize achievements, award trophies, and toast to a great season. Then, we shift gears and dive into off-season training, keeping the momentum going all winter long.

Stay Strong with Indoor & Cross-Training
At ERC, winter training isn’t just about grinding away on the erg. Our coached indoor sessions focus on proper rowing technique, while Black Tusk’s land training builds strength, endurance, and mobility to keep athletes in peak form.

Embrace Winter Adventures
Winter doesn’t mean staying indoors! ERC members hit the River Valley for cross-country skiing and mountain biking, with weekend trips to the Rockies for extra adventure. Whether indoors or out, we train together to stay strong and ready for the next season.

Gear Up for Competition
As the days grow longer, ERC members set their sights on two major events: The Alberta Indoor Rowing Championships and spring training camps. Held in Blackfalds, this high-energy event brings together over 100 athletes, with roaring crowds fuelling the competition. Performance at Indoor Champs even plays a role in selecting rowers for provincial competitive crews—a key step in the summer racing season!

Train Like a Champion
For competitive athletes, spring training camps on the West Coast (like Victoria) provide the perfect environment to sharpen skills. Meanwhile, Sport program members have organized destination camps in Florida, Victoria, and even Italy, making off-season training as rewarding as it is rigorous.

Power Through to Summer
March and April keep ERC members in peak condition with a mix of group erg workouts, outdoor cross-training, and strength sessions. As the countdown to Dock Day in May begins, we train together—staying strong, motivated, and ready for the water!
