Hannah Smith

Club Manager & Coach

As Club Manager and Coach at ERC, I oversee the day-to-day operations and programming, making sure everyone who comes to our club has the best experience possible—and hopefully leaves with a greater appreciation for rowing and Edmonton’s river valley. I am a process-oriented coach with two years of rowing coaching experience, an RCA-LTR certification, and am currently completing my RCA-Coach training and a BKin in Sport Performance and Injury Management (2025). I focus on the steps athletes take rather than just the outcome, believing that process-based goals create a more motivated mindset. I believe sport is about building community and creating spaces where everyone can be active for life. Working at the ERC has allowed me to foster a welcoming environment, and I’m passionate about continuing to introduce more people to rowing.

Tim Fleming

ERC Senior Program Coach

I work with athletes competing on the Senior Team, whether they are new to rowing or experienced. With over 10 years of coaching experience—starting in Edmonton in the fall of 2005—I have worked with athletes at both the club and national levels. I take a developmental and performance-focused approach, fostering a positive team environment where athletes push themselves and each other. A former crew mate who began his Masters at the University of Alberta first asked me to assist with coaching, and since then, working with athletes and building camaraderie with fellow coaches and administrators has kept me engaged over many years.

Lauren Thoman

ERC Sport Coach

As ERC’s Sport Coach, I oversee and coach all non-competitive 18+ athletes, creating a program that is welcoming to new members and challenging for those wanting a taste of competition. Now in my second year of rowing coaching—with five years of experience coaching high school volleyball and badminton—I take a holistic approach that blends positivity, purpose, and progress. I support athletes at every stage, celebrating small wins while chasing big goals. By explaining the “why” behind everything we do, I empower athletes to grow, compete, and become their best rowing selves. I became a coach to help others unlock their full potential, share my love of the outdoors, and experience the drive and transformation that make coaching so rewarding.

Mia Lastovka

Sport Coach Assistant

As a Sport Coach Assistant, I collaborate with other coaches to provide technical advice and guide Sport members through workouts. I am an empowerment-based coach, certified with RCA-LTR and currently completing RCA-Coach training. Now in my fourth year of coaching at ERC, with prior volunteer experience, my number one priority is making rowing enjoyable for all ERC members. I strive to foster a lifelong passion for athleticism in those I coach, while sharing my love of rowing and technical instruction. Coming from a background where results-driven athletics often left me discouraged, it’s my dream to create a space where success is defined individually, and every athlete can thrive in a way that is meaningful to them.

Scott Brown

ERC Juniors Coach

As an ERC Juniors Coach, I oversee and coach all levels of junior rowers, from novices to those competing at National Championships. With five years of coaching experience in Vancouver and Edmonton, I am an RCA-LTR Coach, RCA-Coach, and currently completing a BKin in Sport Performance. I push athletes to achieve goals they once thought unattainable, using rowing as a vehicle to teach the life lessons I was taught through sport. The rowing community relies on members giving back, and I strive to exemplify the coaches and role models who inspired me as a junior. I bring that same passion and commitment to my role at ERC, creating a positive environment where athletes grow both on and off the water.

Carson Roberts

Learn to Row Coach

As a Learn to Row Coach, I introduce new athletes to the sport of rowing and help them develop and grow their skills, both on and off the water. I hold an RCA-LTR certification and have three years of rowing coaching experience. I believe rowing is a sport for everyone and aspire to bring out the best in each of my athletes while building a lasting commitment to the sport. I’m built for competition, and rowing certainly feeds that drive—but it’s also a vibrant and enjoyable community that I’m excited to share with as many new athletes as possible.

Sophie Leitch

Learn to Row Coach

As a Learn to Row Coach with three years of experience and RCA-LTR certification, I welcome new athletes to the sport and support the development of their on-water and dry-land skills. My coaching is athlete-driven, with a priority on showing as many people as possible that sport at any level can be incredibly impactful—helping individuals connect with themselves, build healthy habits, and find community. Rowing gave me strength and belonging after serious health struggles, and I believe the boathouse can be a transformative space for everyone, no matter their goals.

Adonis Pederson

Learn to Train Coach

As a Learn to Train Coach, I’m responsible for educating and coaching adult novice rowers and recent graduates from the Learn to Row program. With two years of coaching experience, I focus on meeting each athlete’s individual needs, introducing them to the training side of rowing, and helping improve their technique. I aim to improve the technical aspects of each athlete’s rowing while fostering a positive, friendly learning environment that builds confidence. I believe every athlete is on their own journey, and I’m here to help you take the next step forward. After attending an ERC summer camp, I immediately fell in love with rowing and was inspired to give back to the sport by teaching others how to row better.

Selah Zelyck

Casual Summer Assistant Coach

As a Casual Summer Assistant Coach, I assist program coaches in running Learn to Row, Intro to Rowing, and Summer Camps, along with supporting standard ERC programming as needed in collaboration with other staff. I hold an RCA-LTR Coach certification and have one year of coaching experience, along with past volunteer involvement. I aim to foster an enjoyable and long-term connection for my athletes with the sport of rowing—providing something constant, rewarding, and meaningful during and beyond their time in the sport. Training as a junior athlete at ERC over the past few years, I was inspired by an incredible group of coaches and staff, and I’m excited to share the unique rowing experience that has become such a big part of my life.
